Saudi Consulate in Houston Issues Advisory Regarding Storm Beryl

Saudi Arabia’s consulate in Houston has urged all citizens in Texas to be cautious regarding Hurricane Beryl and to follow the instructions issued by local authorities, reported the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).

The consulate asked Saudis to contact them via the emergency contact number if needed.

The National Hurricane Center in America has recently clarified that the powerful storm “Beryl” turned into a hurricane, and it is currently approaching the Texas coast near Houston, carrying winds reaching maximum speeds of 120 kilometers per hour.

Beryl hit Texas on Monday, killing several people and cutting power of nearly 3 million homes and businesses as it headed east.

As a result, the US airlines canceled more than 1,300 flights on Monday after the storm intensified and approached the Texas coast.

The Houston region will likely experience heavy rain, some flooding and tropical winds in the next 24 hours.

City leaders urged residents to stay off the roads starting at 10 p.m. Sunday.

Houston Mayor John Whitmire said: “The county leaders and surrounding city leaders are prepared for Beryl to make its way north after it makes landfall on the Texas coast, potentially dropping six to 12 inches of rain in the area.”

“I want Houstonians to know the conditions you go to sleep under tonight will not be the same that you wake up to in the morning,” Whitmire said.
