On the sidelines of the COP16 Conference, Leaders met with the Hoda Al-Ayyaf – CEO of the Environmental Green Horizons Society who informed them about the importance of her participation in the conference.
The Environmental Green Horizons Society participated in the COP16 conference, providing an excellent opportunity to connect under one umbrella with various sectors, including public, private, and non-profit organizations. During the conference, the association benefited greatly from workshops and panel discussions focused on finding solutions to combat desertification and enhancing partnerships and collaboration among diverse entities.
Also supervised by the Ministry of Environment, Water, and Agriculture and the National Center for the Non-Profit Sector, it undertakes numerous initiatives and activities in combating desertification and raising environmental awareness. Its primary objectives include spreading environmental consciousness and opening new horizons for implementing its ambitious initiatives.
Key Initiatives, Achievements:
- Eco-Friendly Building Initiative
- Utilized greywater in six locations in Riyadh, including four mosques and two schools. These buildings were prioritized due to their high water consumption and dense presence within neighborhoods.
- Development of Zaham Park
- Signed an agreement with the National Center for Vegetation Development to rehabilitate Zaham Park, covering an area of over 18 million square meters.
- Planted 55,000 native plants so far, with work ongoing to reach the target.
- The park includes facilities powered by renewable energy, such as a campsite and an exhibition, making it a hub for theoretical and practical research for students.
- Environmental Awareness During the COVID-19 Crisis
- Organized virtual environmental evenings that brought together specialists and enthusiasts to raise awareness and engage the local community.
- Participation in Renewable Energy Exhibitions
- Played a prominent role in exhibitions and forums supporting renewable energy.
Strategic Goals
The association is integral to the Saudi Green Initiative and the Middle East Green Initiative, working toward achieving carbon neutrality by 2060.
Volunteerism
- It won two awards on International Volunteer Day (December 5): the Volunteer Work Award and the Volunteer Unit Establishment Award.
- It contributed to achieving one million volunteers ahead of schedule, a milestone that reflects collaborative efforts across sectors.
Finally, the association strives to realize its vision of building a sustainable community that contributes to environmental preservation and combating desertification.
