Al-Khobar is a few months away from inaugurating a sports landmark, as work is in full swing to open Aramco Stadium by the end of the year.
Set to host the upcoming 2027 AFC Asian Cup and the 2034 FIFA World Cup, the Aramco Stadium will be a beacon of national and international sports, boosting the Eastern Region’s status as a tourism and entertainment hub and solidifying Saudi Arabia’s position as a major host of world-class events in line with the objectives of Vision 2030.
An Architectural Masterpiece
The Big Picture: The Aramco Stadium is a multi-purpose venue located in Al-Khobar, in Saudi Arabia’s Eastern Region, developed in collaboration between Aramco and ROSHN Group. In addition to serving as the home stadium to Al-Qadsiah FC, the Aramco Stadium is set to host matches for the 2027 AFC Asian Cup and the 2034 FIFA World Cup. Having begun construction in late July 2024, the project is on track for completion in November 2026.
The Design: The Aramco Stadium has a unique spiral design, inspired by the natural whirlpools of the Arabian Gulf, with an exterior composed of overlapping translucent, sail-like panels designed to maximize daylight while providing optimal shade and cooling. It utilizes a compact, multi-tiered seating bowl to amplify crowd energy and guarantee pristine sightlines. Targeting a Gold LEED certification, this landmark project blends cutting-edge climate technology with Saudi Arabia’s coastal identity, creating a futuristic sports venue.

Backstory: Saudi Arabia will host the 19th edition of the AFC Asian Cup from January 7 to February 5, 2027 across eight stadiums in Riyadh, Jeddah, and Al-Khobar. The Kingdom will also host the 2034 FIFA World Cup, becoming the first and sole country to host this landmark tournament with the participation of 48 national teams from around the world. To this end, Saudi Arabia is preparing 15 stadiums across 5 host cities, including Riyadh, Jeddah, Al-Khobar, Abha and NEOM, in addition to 10 other locations to hold the FIFA Fan Festival.
