Roar of the Green Falcons: Saudi Arabia’s AFC Asian Cup 2027 Dates, Venues Revealed

The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) and the AFC Asian Cup 2027 Local Organizing Committee announced the tournament dates and venues. Saudi Arabia will host the 19th edition of the AFC Asian Cup from January 7 to February 5, 2027, marking the Kingdom’s fourth time hosting the prestigious event.

Tournament Schedule and Host Cities

The tournament will kick off on January 7, 2027, and conclude with the final match on February 5, 2027. Eight stadiums across Riyadh, Jeddah, and Al Khobar will host the matches, ensuring a world-class experience for fans. Riyadh’s King Fahd Sports City Stadium, currently undergoing upgrades, will serve as the main venue in the capital.

Jeddah’s King Abdullah Sports City Stadium, known as “The Shining Jewel,” will host matches after recently staging the 2023 FIFA Club World Cup Final. Al Khobar will showcase a newly constructed stadium, becoming the Eastern Region’s centerpiece for the tournament.

Additional Stadiums and Upgrades

Riyadh will also feature King Saud University Stadium, Al Shabab Stadium, Kingdom Arena, and the revamped Imam Mohammed Ibn Saud University Stadium. The latter will expand its seating capacity to 21,000 and upgrade facilities to meet AFC standards. Jeddah’s Prince Abdullah Al Faisal Sports City Stadium, a venue for the 2023 FIFA Club World Cup, will also host matches.

Saudi Arabia’s Football Legacy

Saudi Arabia has won the AFC Asian Cup three times, in 1984, 1988, and 1996, solidifying its status as a football powerhouse in Asia. Hosting the 2027 edition aligns with Saudi Vision 2030’s goals to elevate the Kingdom as a global sports hub.

Saudi Arabian Football Federation (SAFF) President Yasser Al Misehal emphasized the Kingdom’s dedication to delivering an exceptional tournament. He highlighted the unwavering support from Saudi leadership and Minister of Sport Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki bin Faisal. Al Misehal also thanked AFC President Sheikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa for his guidance and support.

Qualified Teams, Future Spots

Eighteen nations, including Saudi Arabia as the host nation, have qualified for the tournament. Six additional spots will be determined through the final round of the AFC Asian Cup Qualifiers, ensuring a competitive and thrilling event.

Saudi Arabia’s hosting of the AFC Asian Cup 2027 underscores its growing influence in global sports, following successful events like the 2023 FIFA Club World Cup and the Spanish and Italian Super Cups. The Kingdom continues to shine on the international stage, promising an unforgettable tournament for football fans worldwide.
