Saudi Arabia’s General Directorate of Passports has started deploying electric scooters for passport security personnel at the King Fahd Causeway in the Eastern Region.
The electric scooters boost the quality of services provided to travelers, particularly the elderly and people with disabilities, streamlining their travel procedures.

Moreover, the scooters regulate vehicle traffic within the passport area’s lanes and gates at the crossing. They also ensure a rapid response to any situation requiring immediate intervention, according to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).

The deployment of electric scooters align with the smart solutions introduced by the General Directorate of Passports to enhance the traveler experience, improve operational efficiency and response times, and ensure smooth and streamlined procedures.
The move also serves as a prelude to the rollout of these electric scooters across all of the Kingdom’s border crossings.

The King Fahd Causeway is a vital land link connecting Saudi Arabia and Bahrain. Opened in 1986, the causeway stretches 25 kilometers across a series of bridges and artificial islands.
It features modern infrastructure including emergency lanes, mosques, and panoramic restaurants. The causeway facilitates significant regional travel, handling an average of 45,000 vehicles daily, with peaks reaching 60,000 during weekends.
