How Is Saudi Reef Reshaping the Coffee Industry?
Driving this transformation, the Sustainable Agricultural Rural Development Program (Saudi Reef) is spearheading five major development projects across Jazan, Aseer, and Al-Baha.
Together valued at more than SAR111 million, the initiatives are slated for completion and handover before the end of the year, further reinforcing the Kingdom’s growing Arabica coffee sector.
What Fuels Saudi Arabia’s Premium Coffee Ambitions?
The Kingdom’s coffee ambitions are no longer confined to boosting harvest volumes; they now seek to nurture quality at every stage of production.
This vision has driven Saudi Reef to invest widely in coffee processing and preparation factories, model nurseries, and alternative farms that merge sustainable cultivation with modern agricultural technologies.
According to Saudi Reef spokesperson Majed Al-Buraikan, these strategic investments are strengthening Saudi Arabia’s emergence as a producer of premium Arabica coffee, with annual production exceeding 1,800 tons.
Turning Vision into Reality
Remarkably, the transformation is becoming increasingly visible across Saudi Arabia’s coffee-growing regions. Jazan’s alternative model farms have reached full completion, offering a practical blueprint for modern coffee cultivation practices.
Meanwhile, model nurseries in Jazan, Aseer, and Al-Baha has surpassed the 80% mark. Construction is also progressing on the coffee processing factory in Al-Baha, which has reached 49% completion.
Along with planned processing facilities in Al-Dayer Governorate and Aseer, these projects are steadily paving the way for a stronger and more enduring Arabica coffee industry.
Can Coffee Become a Driver of Rural Prosperity?
While the projects aim to nurture coffee production, their deeper value lies in promoting a more resilient rural economy.
Reflecting on this, Al-Buraikan noted that modern processing facilities and model farms will elevate product quality through cutting-edge post-harvest technologies, expand the scope of the supply of high-quality seedlings, and provide farmers with the tools to improve productivity and increase their incomes.
By depending on harvested rainwater to irrigate coffee seedlings on Jazan’s mountain terraces, the initiatives support sustainable land and water management while rooting the sustainable practices in rural communities.
Looking ahead, the completion of these projects is poised to further reinforce Saudi Vision 2030‘s objective of unlocking the potential of the Kingdom’s agricultural sector while creating long-term value for farmers, communities, and the national economy.
