The Saudi Ports Authority “Mawani” announced today that the Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) has added a new shipping service ‘East Africa Express’ to King Abdul Aziz Port in Dammam, Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.
The new shipping service connects the Kingdom to the ports of East Africa, contributing to enhancing the Kingdom’s maritime sector and logistics services.
This launch aligns with the Kingdom’s strong adherence to the goals of the National Transport and Logistics Strategy (NTLS), aiming to acquire a pioneering position as a global maritime destination that bridges three continents.
Through regular weekly trips, the newly added service links King Abdul Aziz Port in Dammam with Mundra Port in India, Qasim Port in Pakistan, and Abu Dhabi and Jebel Ali Ports in the United Arab Emirates, providing a capacity of up to 11,000 TEUs.
This was not the first shipping service to be added this year. On January, “Mawani” added the Upper Gulf Express “UGX” to King Abdul Aziz Port in Dammam. It connected the Kingdom to the ports of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries.
The “UGX” linked the Kingdom with 5 regional and global ports, including Sohar in Oman, Jebel Ali in the UAE, Hamad in Qatar, Shuwaikh in Kuwait, and Umm Qasr in Iraq. Therefore, it added to the competitive advantage of Saudi Arabia as a gateway to regional and international ports.
It is noteworthy that King Abdul Aziz Port in Dammam boasts state-of-the-art operational and logistical capabilities including 43 fully equipped berths, capable of accommodating over 105 million tons of vessels and containers. In January 2024, it achieved its highest monthly throughput, handling 215,179 TEUs, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.
