Saudi Arabia Re-Elected as Global Research Council Vice Chair for 3rd Term

The Board of Governors of the Global Research Council has unanimously re-elected the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia as Vice Chair for the third consecutive term. The Kingdom is represented by Dr. Munir El-Desouki, President of King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST). The announcement was made during the council’s 14th Annual Meeting in Bangkok in 2026.

This continued appointment reflects growing international confidence in Saudi Arabia’s leadership in advancing research, development, and innovation. It also underscores the Kingdom’s active role in shaping the council’s agenda and contributing to its future direction, while strengthening scientific collaboration at both regional and global levels.

Saudi Arabia’s re-election further highlights its prominent position within the global research landscape. As the representative of the Middle East and North Africa region on the Board of Governors, the Kingdom plays a key role in fostering cooperation among regional research councils and promoting knowledge and innovation.

Global Research Council

Through its engagement with the Global Research Council, Saudi Arabia remains central to regional research initiatives, including regular meetings of Middle East and North Africa research councils, whose secretariat is hosted by KACST. The Kingdom also continues to expand its international partnerships and strengthen its research and innovation ecosystem in alignment with the goals of Saudi Vision 2030.

Finally, its mission is to enhance collaboration, support high-quality research, facilitate knowledge exchange, and help research institutions develop their capabilities in line with global best practices.
