The ports overseen by the General Authority for Ports (Mawani) achieved a 9.11% increase in cargo handling volume in July 2024, reaching 27,382,403 tons, compared to 25,096,888 tons in the same month of 2023.
The number of incoming containers recorded an increase of 15.72%, reaching 271,465 containers compared to 234,592 containers last year. On the other hand, the number of outgoing containers decreased by 2.50%, reaching 243,758 containers compared to 250,003 containers during the same period in 2023.
The total for general cargo reached 701,606 tons, bulk solid cargo was 4,482,634 tons, and bulk liquid cargo was 15,349,511 tons. Additionally, the ports received 506,016 head of cattle, representing an increase of 127.60% compared to 222,327 head of cattle during the same period in 2023.
The number of handled containers reached 645,019, a decrease of 14.40% compared to 753,496 containers last year. Additionally, the number of transshipment containers dropped by 51.73% to 129,797 containers, compared to 268,901 containers in 2023.
Maritime Traffic
Likewise, maritime traffic decreased by 11.24%, reaching 908 ships, compared to 1,023 ships in 2023. Passenger numbers also recorded a decrease of 31.80%, reaching 52,191 passengers, compared to 76,532 passengers last year. The number of cars saw a decline of 8.64%, reaching 90,471 cars, compared to 99,026 cars last year.
