Mumbai, Bangkok Power Riyadh Air’s Bold Asian Expansion

Riyadh Air’s international expansion is gathering fresh momentum, with Asia emerging as an increasingly central focus of its growing route network.

By establishing direct links with key commercial and tourism destinations, the airline is further elevating Riyadh’s position as a global aviation hub while advancing Saudi Arabia’s broader drive to strengthen economic, cultural, and travel ties across the region.

That momentum is vividly reflected in the carrier’s latest milestones: the launch of its inaugural service to Mumbai and the opening of ticket sales for flights to Bangkok.

Mumbai Opens a New Chapter for Riyadh Air

Riyadh Air has made another bold stride in its ambitious international rollout by celebrating its first landing in Mumbai, marking the carrier’s official entry to one of the world’s largest aviation markets.

Coming just eight weeks after the airline’s commercial debut, the launch sets Mumbai as Riyadh Air’s eighth destination and underscores the carrier’s drive to connect Saudi Arabia with some of the world’s most strategic markets.

The inaugural flight departed Riyadh as RX0697 before returning from Mumbai as RX0698, establishing a daily connection between the two cities.

Operated by Riyadh Air’s state-of-the-art Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, the route features a premium flying experience supported by modern cabin interiors, advanced in-flight entertainment, as well as the airline’s signature Saudi hospitality.

In this context, the successful inauguration not only broadens Riyadh Air’s growing international appeal but also strengthens its unwavering commitment to delivering world-class service.

Bridging Two Markets

By linking Riyadh and Mumbai, the new route connects two of the region’s fast-growing commercial centers while meeting the steadily growing demand for travel between Saudi Arabia and India.

This comes at a moment when the Kingdom is increasingly emerging as one of India’s most important aviation partners, ranking as its second-largest international market by scheduled capacity.

According to OAG’s July 2026 data, approximately 308,000 seats are available between the two countries, representing about 4 percent of India’s international air traffic.

With surging demands, the new service is poised to enhance business partnerships, open new windows for tourism cooperation, and encourage greater cultural exchange.

Standing out as India’s financial and commercial capital, Mumbai remains one of the country’s leading international gateways and is celebrated for its dynamic business environment, cultural diversity and flourishing entertainment industry.

In this way, the direct service provides travelers from India with seamless access to Riyadh’s rapidly evolving business, tourism and entertainment landscapes.

Reservations for the new routes are now available through Riyadh Air’s website, mobile application, and travel agencies.

More boldly, travelers can also enroll in the airline’s loyalty program, Sfeer to enjoy an array of member benefits, such as complimentary Wi-Fi and reward points earned from the first flight.

Riyadh Air Eyes Asia

Following its successful entry into the Indian market, Riyadh Air is now shifting the focus toward Southeast Asia.

The airline has launched ticket sales for its new Bangkok service, which is scheduled to kick off on September 2, further extending its growing international presence.

Operating three weekly flights between Riyadh and Bangkok, the new service marks another milestone in Riyadh Air’s ambitious agenda. The route not only solidifies links between Saudi Arabia and Southeast Asia but also stands as a testament to the carrier’s broader vision of establishing Riyadh as a gateway connecting travelers to major destinations across Asia and beyond.

According to the carrier, more international destinations are expected to join the network in the weeks ahead.

With three weekly flights, the Bangkok route further deepens links between Saudi Arabia and Southeast Asia while advancing Riyadh’s ambitions to become a prestigious aviation hub.

Riyadh Air’s Global Bet

Since its launch in March 2023 under the patronage of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Riyadh Air has been envisioned as more than just another national carrier.

Branded as the “world’s most forward-thinking airline,” the carrier has swiftly emerged as a symbol of Saudi Arabia’s drive to redefine its role in global aviation. Operating from Riyadh under the code RX, the airline seeks to serve more than 100 destinations by 2030.

With the unwavering support of Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF), Riyadh Air also represents a cornerstone in the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 strategy to diversify its economy and reduce oil dependency.

As the Kingdom opens its doors to international tourists and transforms its entertainment landscape, the carrier is widely viewed as the bridge connecting the Kingdom’s aspirations with the global travel market.

By boosting international connectivity and unlocking new tourism opportunities, the airline is steadily positioning Riyadh as a world-class aviation hub.
