
Saudi Minister of Foreign Affairs Prince Faisal bin Farhan and Thai Foreign Minister Maris Sangiampongsa co-chaired the first Saudi-Thai Coordination Council meeting in Bangkok on Thursday. This landmark event highlights the growing partnership between Saudi Arabia and Thailand, focusing on enhanced coordination across multiple sectors to achieve shared goals.
Over 70 Joint Initiatives Unveiled
The meeting resulted in more than 70 joint initiatives spanning politics, security, defense, energy, economy, investment, education, culture, and tourism. These initiatives underscore the commitment of both nations to deepen cooperation and integration, ensuring mutual prosperity and development.
Both ministers emphasized the importance of sustaining the council’s momentum and reinforcing coordination among its subcommittees. They highlighted the council’s role as a pivotal institutional mechanism for advancing bilateral cooperation and implementing actionable recommendations.
Key Agreements Signed
At the conclusion of the meeting, the two sides signed a cooperation program between the Prince Saud Al-Faisal Institute for Diplomatic Studies and Thailand’s Devawongse Varopakarn Institute of Foreign Affairs. This agreement aims to foster greater diplomatic collaboration and mutual understanding.
During his visit, Prince Faisal bin Farhan met with Thailand’s Speaker of the House of Representatives, Wan Muhamad Noor Matha. They discussed ways to strengthen bilateral relations and align efforts with the aspirations of both nations, further solidifying the partnership.
Trade and Economic Collaboration
The Saudi-Thai Economic and Trade Committee also convened, focusing on boosting trade volumes, which exceeded $6 billion in 2024. Key sectors include mineral products, fertilizers, automobiles, machinery, and halal products, reflecting the growing economic interdependence between the two countries.
The ministers expressed optimism about the future of Saudi-Thai relations, with the second council meeting scheduled to take place in Saudi Arabia. This ongoing dialogue aims to unlock new opportunities for trade, investment, and cultural exchange, ensuring a prosperous and sustainable partnership.
