As part of Saudi Arabia’s preparations for Hajj 2026, the authorities have launched the issuance of electronic entry permits for Mecca, according to Gulf News.
Residents and workers can now apply online as the Kingdom has further boosted measures to regulate and control access to the holy city.
The General Directorate of Passports unveiled that applications for Mecca entry permits can now be submitted via the Absher and Muqeem platforms.
Therefore, people are no longer required to visit passport offices and can obtain their permits easily.
To ensure faster and more efficient processing of approvals, the system is integrated with the Mecca Entry Permit service.
Under the new framework, the Absher Individuals platform will assume responsibility for issuing permits to a broader group of beneficiaries, including GCC citizens, premium residency holders, investors, mothers of Saudi nationals, domestic workers, as well as non-Saudi family members.
Responsibility for processing applications will be conducted via the Muqeem portal, specifically for employees of establishments based in Mecca, as well as individuals contracted to work in the city during the Hajj season.
Recently, the Public Security Directorate confirmed that restrictions on entering Mecca without an official permit came into force on Monday, April 13.
These regulations apply to expatriates who do not obtain a valid work permit for the holy sites, a Mecca-issued residency permit (iqama), or an official Hajj permit.
