CST Regulates Earth Observation Space Platform
The Communications, Space and Technology Commission(CST) issued the “Earth Space Observation (EO) Platform Regulations” document and the “Request for a Permit to Provide the Earth Space Observation (EO) Platform Service” document.
These strategies aim to foster an environment for the private sector to establish and develop the market for space Earth observation services. It seek to support emerging businesses and stimulate their contribution to raising the Kingdom’s gross domestic product by developing value-added products.
The Authority aims to grant the first permit in the Kingdom’s space sector through two documents. These documents will enable an entity to establish and operate an electronic platform for collecting and processing Earth space observation (EO) data.
Furthermore, the platform will serve as a market and digital enabler, collecting and processing data from satellites for surveillance images, Earth’s natural phenomena, environmental pollution, and weather. It will also connect data providers with value-added service providers to develop and process data into value-added programs and products.”
Finally, the Communications, Space and Technology Commission highlighted the requirements for those wishing to obtain the permit and the relevant obligations to ensure the rights of beneficiaries and the integrity of data handling and preservation.
