Saudi Arabia Leads World in Securing Internet Routing with 99.8% Activation Rate

Saudi Arabia has ranked first globally in the activation of Resource Public Key Infrastructure Route Origin Validation (RPKI RoV), with an activation rate of 99.8%, according to the latest measurements by the Asia-Pacific Network Information Centre (APNIC), which manages and distributes Internet number resources in the Asia-Pacific region.
The Communications, Space and Technology Commission said that Saudi Arabia’s leading position in this indicator reflects the effectiveness of the telecommunications sector’s efforts to adopt global best practices, and strengthens the Kingdom’s competitiveness in international rankings. This contributes to raising the maturity of Internet infrastructure and enhancing its reliability and security.
What Is Technology?
RPKI RoV verifies that Internet traffic is routed to authorized networks and helps prevent data from being incorrectly routed to untrusted websites or online services. It therefore serves as an additional layer of protection for digital infrastructure, reducing the risk of route hijacking or redirecting users’ traffic to untrusted destinations.
The technology is part of the global Internet security framework known as Resource Public Key Infrastructure, which aims to secure the core routing protocol used by networks to exchange Internet traffic.

Impact of Achievement
Saudi Arabia’s leading position at this rate means that the vast majority of Internet traffic within the national network is subject to routing-validation mechanisms. This enhances user protection when browsing websites and using digital and financial services, while reducing the risk of connections being redirected to untrusted sources.
The achievement also reflects the development of Saudi Arabia’s Internet ecosystem in terms of security and technical readiness, and supports the Kingdom’s position as a regional and global digital hub, amid growing reliance on cloud services, artificial intelligence, and digital transformation across government and economic sectors.
Extension of Advanced Indicators
This progress builds on the Kingdom’s efforts to improve indicators of Internet ecosystem maturity. Saudi Arabia ranks among the top five countries globally in the Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) adoption indicator, and holds first place among G20 countries in the Domain Name System Security Extensions (DNSSEC) validation indicator.
Together, these results reflect the integration of national efforts to develop digital infrastructure and enhance the security and reliability of Internet services, supporting the Kingdom’s continued progress in international telecommunications and technology indicators.
