Saudi Leadership Congratulates Joseph Aoun on Lebanon’s Presidency

Saudi Arabia’s leadership has extended its congratulations to Joseph Aoun on his election as president of Lebanon, reported the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).

On Thursday, the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, sent a cable of congratulations to President Joseph Aoun after winning the presidential election and taking the constitutional oath.

King Salman expressed his sincere wishes for President Aoun’s success and for the continued progress and prosperity of the Lebanese people.

Similarly, the Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister, Mohammed bin Salman, sent President Aoun a cable of congratulations, wishing him success and the Lebanese people more progress and prosperity.

Lebanon on Thursday elected the army commander, Joseph Aoun, as head of state after the country’s parliament voted for him. Aoun fell short of the 86 votes needed in the first round, but was able to secure 99 votes in the second round of vote.

The election of Aoun has ended a more than two-year-long presidential vacuum, as the term of his predecessor, Michel Aoun, ended in October 2022.

Aoun’s election came on the heels of a ceasefire deal between Hezbollah and Israel, which ended the 14-month fighting between both sides. The agreement, which took effect in November 2024, requires the Lebanese army to deploy additional troops in the south as Israel and Hezbollah withdraw their forces.
