Saudi FM Discusses Latest Developments with US Envoy to Lebanon

The Saudi Minister of Foreign Affairs, Prince Faisal bin Farhan, discussed the latest regional developments with the US Special Envoy to Lebanon, Amos Hochstein, according to the Saudi Foreign Ministry.

On Sunday, Prince Faisal bin Farhan met the US Envoy to Lebanon at the Saudi Foreign Ministry’s headquarters in Riyadh. During the meeting, both officials discussed the current regional issues.

Furthermore, the discussions focused on the latest developments in Lebanon and efforts made towards addressing them, the Foreign Ministry’s statement said.

The advisor to the Minister of Foreign Affairs for Lebanese Affairs, Prince Yazid bin Mohammed bin Fahd Al-Farhan, attended the meeting.

The meeting between the two officials came as both Israel and Hezbollah traded accusations over breaching the terms of the ceasefire agreement that took effect between both sides on November 27, 2024.

The agreement gives a period of 60 days for Israel to gradually withdraw its troops from southern Lebanon, while Hezbollah ends its armed presence north of the Litani River. It also involves the deployment of additional Lebanese troops and UN Peacekeepers in the south, with an international panel, led by the US, monitoring compliance.

However, the UN Peacekeeping Force (UNIFIL) has also accused Israel of violating the terms of the ceasefire deal.

The fighting between Hezbollah and Israel intensified since October 2023, after Hamas’ attack on Israel and the ensuing Gaza war, killing 3,800 Lebanese and displaced over one million from their homes. On the other hand, it killed at least 82 soldiers and 47 civilians in Israel, displacing 60,000 people.
