Warsaw Confirms No Impact on Patriot Systems Despite Anticipated US Arms Delays
Polish Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz said on Sunday that Warsaw has received no indications that potential delays in US weapons deliveries to Poland would impact its Patriot air defense systems, according to Reuters.
“Regarding Patriot batteries, we have no indication of any delays,” Kosiniak-Kamysz was quoted as saying by PAP news agency.
Washington has warned several European allies, including the United Kingdom, Poland, Lithuania, and Estonia, to brace for extended delays in American weapons.
In April, Reuters reported that that US officials have notified multiple European counterparts that previously agreed weapons deliveries are anticipated to be delayed.
These remarks came as the ongoing war with Iran is escalating and it continues to strain already depleted US stockpiles.
Kosiniak-Kamysz also noted that delays could affect other equipment as well, but not to the extent that would “cause jitters.”
War in Iran
On February 28, the United States and Israel launched strikes on Iran, targeting its leadership and triggering a new conflict in the Middle East.
Iran has been responding with a retaliatory counterattack in Bahrain, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and Abu Dhabi as a retaliatory move, while launching barrages of missiles and drones toward Israel.
The conflict has spread across the Middle East, leaving thousands dead, triggering unprecedented disruptions to energy supplies especially after the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.
