Riyadh Joins Global Quality of Life Index, Marking a New Urban Milestone
Riyadh has taken another decisive step toward solidifying its position as a world-class city by joining the Global Quality of Life Index (QoLI), an international initiative developed through a partnership between the Quality of Life Program Center and the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat).
This milestone reflects the capital’s unwavering commitment to adopting globally recognized standards that measure and enhance residents’ welfare.
Riyadh’s accession to the index also mirrors the sustained efforts and ongoing initiatives of the Royal Commission for Riyadh City, Riyadh Region Municipality, and the Quality of Life Program Center to elevate the capital’s standing among the world’s leading cities for quality of life.
Apart from reinforcing Riyadh’s global profile, the inclusion accelerates the adoption of standardized measurement frameworks that enable cities worldwide to assess their performance across key dimensions, such as health and well-being, the urban environment, and economic and social opportunities.
By joining the index, Riyadh underscores Saudi Arabia’s commitment to achieving Vision 2030‘s ambitious objective of positioning Riyadh among the world’s leading destinations for living, working, and investment.
Serving as an integrated scientific measurement framework, the Global Quality of Life Index provides city policymakers with valuable insights needed to shape more livable urban environments. Through a seamless blend of quantitative and qualitative indicators, it evaluates performance across the elements that shape everyday life, from housing and mobility to public services, green spaces, safety, and residents’ physical and mental well-being.
