Saudi Arabia Provides Over 224 Million Riyals for Yemen’s Operating Costs, Salaries

Under the leadership’s directives, Saudi Arabia has disbursed a new tranche of budget support for Yemen totalling more than 224 million Saudi riyals (about $59.7 million) through the Saudi Programme for Yemen’s Development and Reconstruction.

The allocation is earmarked for operating expenses and salaries, in a bid to bolster stability for the Yemeni people. It is also intended to help regularise government financial flows and salary payments, while strengthening fiscal policy efficiency to steer economic and social development onto a more sustainable path.

The Saudi Press Agency (SPA) said the new tranche is expected to reinforce purchasing power, ensure steady household incomes and stimulate commercial markets.

The announcement comes as Yemen launches military operations against the Houthi militia to restore the remaining territories of the Republic of Yemen and extend state sovereignty and institutions across all national territory, according to the Chairman of the Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council, Dr. Rashad al-Alimi, in his speech today.

In his address, al-Alimi stressed that “brotherly Saudi support has contributed to the resilience of state institutions and to alleviating the suffering of the Yemeni people,” noting that the Kingdom has remained a second homeland for millions of Yemenis who found open doors there to work, live and find security. “The Yemeni people will forever preserve the Kingdom’s positions in their national memory,” he added.

Saudi Arabia is Yemen’s largest historical donor across humanitarian, development and economic fronts. Kingdom-funded developmental and economic interventions totalling more than $12.6 billion between 2012 and 2026 have underpinned the capacity of Yemeni institutions to continue delivering services and to ease economic and social pressures. These have included deposits and grants to the Central Bank of Yemen aimed at achieving financial balance and supporting macroeconomic stability.

Through the Saudi Programme for Yemen’s Development and Reconstruction, these interventions have helped consolidate the foundations of sustainable development, mitigate humanitarian and economic impacts, and advance comprehensive development for present and future generations.

To date, the programme has delivered a matrix of 300 development projects and initiatives across eight vital sectors, improving the efficiency of infrastructure and basic services, building the capacities of Yemeni cadres and creating job opportunities in support of sustainable, inclusive development for the Yemeni people.
