Indigo Takes Flight: Riyadh Air Unveils Its Bold New Identity

Indigo takes to the skies with Riyadh Air as the Saudi carrier unveils its first Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner in the airline’s signature livery.

Riyadh Air finds its signature

The aircraft rolled out of Boeing’s paint facility in Charleston, South Carolina, showcasing an indigo-and-lavender design inspired by the colors of spring desert blooms and the sweeping forms of Arabic calligraphy.

The indigo aircraft complements Riyadh Air’s signature pearlescent white design, giving the airline’s growing fleet another distinctive visual expression of the bold identity it is building in the skies.

The indigo livery is expected to feature on one in every 10 aircraft in Riyadh Air’s fleet, adorning the carrier with a rare and instantly recognizable signature in the skies.

Once delivered, the newly painted Dreamliner will join the airline’s expanding network, bringing its bold colors to one of 15 international destinations.

What does the new Dreamliner look like?

Remarkably, Riyadh Air offered a first glimpse of the newly painted Dreamliner on October 4, sharing a series of images of the aircraft, registered HZ-RXAK, across its social media channels and tagging Boeing.

“First look at our Nile Blue Boeing 787 Dreamliner after the completion of its painting,” the airline said in a post translated by X.

The reveal adds a new shade to Riyadh Air’s growing fleet. According to ch-aviation data, the airline has so far received eight Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners, all carrying variations of its signature white, indigo and lavender palette.

Inspired by the changing sky

More vividly, Riyadh Air’s visual identity draws from a refined palette of five primary colors, including lavender, Sunset Peach and indigo.

Designed by PriestmanGoode, the airline’s first livery makes indigo the centerpiece, drawing inspiration from the sky’s shifting hues as dusk gives way to dawn.

The design studio said it pushed the boundaries of both liveries to reflect Riyadh Air’s ambitions, creating an identity designed to stand apart in the global aviation landscape.

A bold identity goes global

Riyadh Air CEO Tony Douglas described the arrival of the first indigo aircraft as a proud moment for the airline, with the livery drawing on the colors of spring desert blooms and the artistry of Arabic calligraphy.

He further noted that the design gives Riyadh Air a striking presence that will stand out at airports worldwide.

Paired with the airline’s pearlescent livery, it also reflects what Douglas called a “modern, confident Saudi identity,” marking another milestone as Riyadh Air reaches 10 aircraft and 15 destinations in less than four months.
