In its latest expansion, the Kingdom’s national carrier and Public Investment Fund (PIF) company has unveiled its inaugural direct flight to Kuala Lumpur.
This milestone establishes Riyadh Air’s first destination in Southeast Asia, reinforcing regional connectivity and creating new opportunities for trade, tourism, and investment.
Operating three weekly nonstop services between King Khalid International Airport (RUH) and Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), the newly launched service significantly boosts air connectivity between Saudi Arabia and the ASEAN region, providing faster and more seamless travel for business, tourism, education, and religious journeys.
Strengthening Saudi-Malaysian Relations
Aligned with the ambitions of Saudi Vision 2030, the new route supports Riyadh’s emergence as a global aviation hub, fueling business, tourism, trade, and academic collaboration, while offering Malaysian Hajj and Umrah pilgrims direct access to the Kingdom.
The inaugural arrival at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) was commemorated with an official welcoming ceremony that brought together senior government officials and aviation leaders from both Saudi Arabia and Malaysia, highlighting the increasing collaboration between the two countries.
The ceremony was also attended by Saudi Ambassador to Malaysia Osama Al-Ahmadi, alongside representatives from Malaysia’s Ministry of Transport and Malaysia Airports, reflecting the high-level support behind the initiative.

During the ceremony, officials from both countries underscored that the significance of the new service extends well beyond elevated passenger connectivity. Rather, they labeled it as a catalyst for fostering trade and investment ties, opening new avenues for tourism and business exchanges, and solidifying Riyadh Air‘s thriving presence across Southeast Asia.
The route also reinforces Kuala Lumpur International Airport’s position as a pioneering regional gateway, while supporting Saudi Arabia’s broader drive to enhance engagement with the fast-growing ASEAN market.

Since its launch in March 2023 under the patronage of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Riyadh Air has been envisioned as more than just another national carrier.
