Saudia: No Flight Delays, Despite Airbus’ Largest A320 Recall

Saudia announced that it operates roughly 108 Airbus A320 aircraft, with about 51 affected by the emergency procedures mandated by the European company Airbus, according to Al Arabiya.

Engineer Abdullah Al-Shahrani, Saudia’s Director General of Corporate Communications, told Al-Arabiya.net that the group had pre-empted the European Aviation Safety Agency’s (EASA) directive by moving swiftly to address the issue.

Al-Shahrani also explained that a limited number of Saudia aircraft of the same model are currently undergoing mandatory software upgrades, noting that this process is expected to be completed soon.

Saudia carried out a series of rapid interventions after the European manufacturer of the A320 model uncovered a technical defect that triggered the largest recall in Airbus’ history. The company revealed that intense solar radiation could corrupt critical flight-control data.

Al-Shahrani underscored that flyadeal — the Saudia Group’s low-cost carrier — has completed all the necessary upgrades and procedures on its fleet in coordination with Airbus.

Moreover, he affirmed that both Saudia and flyadeal continue to operate their flights on schedule, without any disruption.

This move stands as a testament to the efficiency of the group’s technical and engineering teams, who worked around the clock at the airline’s four main hubs in Jeddah, Riyadh, Dammam and Madinah to address the issue.

Al-Shahrani reassured travelers that the group has no intensions to adjust flight schedules, despite the issue emerging at the close of the holiday period. He even affirmed that all Saudia and flyadeal flights are operating without delays.
