Saudia Launches Scheduled Flights Between Riyadh, Moscow

Saudia, the national flag carrier of Saudi Arabia, has officially inaugurated its first direct scheduled flight to Moscow. The launch was organized in collaboration with the Saudi Tourism Authority and the Air Connectivity Program.

A special ceremony marking the occasion took place at the Catrion Lounge in King Khalid International Airport, Riyadh. The event was attended by Saudia Group Director General Ibrahim Al-Omar, Russian Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Sergey Kozlov, and representatives from the Saudi Tourism Authority, as well as stakeholders from the aviation, tourism, and media sectors.

Cultural Exchange

Al-Omar emphasized that the new route represents a major step toward strengthening economic and developmental ties between Saudi Arabia and Russia, while fostering cultural exchange.

“The launch of direct flights between Saudi Arabia and the Russian Federation marks a significant milestone in advancing bilateral relations,” he said. “It also supports the goals of Saudi Vision 2030, particularly in expanding the aviation sector and connecting the Kingdom with over 250 international destinations.”

He added:

“This new route underscores Saudia’s commitment to one of its strategic pillars—bringing the world to the Kingdom. It will serve the increasing demand for travel to Saudi Arabia’s growing calendar of events and experiences, and facilitate the journeys of pilgrims and international travelers across our expanding global network. Additionally, our growth is supported by a robust fleet expansion plan and a comprehensive program to enhance the guest experience.”

Ambassador Kozlov praised the initiative, stating:

“Saudia’s direct flights between Riyadh and Moscow reflect the shared commitment of both nations to deepen their relationship. This connection also enhances travel opportunities, tourism, and cultural exchange between Saudi Arabia and Russia.”

The inaugural flight, SV0283, operated by a Boeing 787-10 Dreamliner, departed from Riyadh with a ceremonial send-off involving representatives from all operational sectors. Upon arrival at Sheremetyevo International Airport, the aircraft received the traditional water salute. Saudi Ambassador to Russia Sami Alsadhan led the welcoming reception, while similar celebrations are planned for the first return flight, SV0282, from Moscow to Riyadh.

Wings of Connection

To commemorate the occasion, Saudia will also host a “Wings of Connection” gala dinner in Moscow, attended by Alsadhan, Al-Omar, Sheremetyevo International Airport Director General Mikhail Vasilenko, Evgeny Kozlov, First Deputy Head of the Office of the Mayor and the Government of Moscow and Chairman of the Moscow City Tourism Committee, along with officials and representatives from both countries’ diplomatic, investment, tourism, culture, travel, and aviation sectors.

Saudia will operate three weekly flights between Riyadh and Moscow, further expanding its international network, which now connects guests to more than 100 destinations across four continents.
