Saudi Minister Attends CARICOM Leaders’ Session
On February 26, 2024, His Excellency Adel bin Ahmed Al-Jubeir attended the 46th session of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) leaders. He was invited by Guyana, the current president of the session.
What is CARICOM, and why is it important?
CARICOM is a regional organization of 15 Caribbean countries. It promotes economic integration, cooperation, and development among its members. Additionally, they face similar challenges, such as the impact of climate change, the need for energy security, and the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Furthermore, he highlighted the achievements of Saudi Arabia in the fields of economy, development, and climate action. For instance:
- The launch of the Saudi Green Initiative and the Middle East Green Initiative, which aim to reduce carbon emissions, increase renewable energy, and plant billions of trees
- The hosting of the G20 summit in 2020, which focused on addressing the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, supporting the global economy, and advancing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
- The announcement of the Saudi Vision 2030, which is a comprehensive plan to diversify the Saudi economy, empower the youth and women, and improve the quality of life for the Saudi people.
What commitments did Saudi Arabia reaffirm?
Subsequently, he also reaffirmed the commitment of Saudi Arabia to support the development and stability of the Caribbean region. For example:
- The provision of humanitarian and development assistance to the Caribbean countries, especially those affected by natural disasters, such as hurricanes and earthquakes.
- The participation in the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB), which supports the economic and social development of the Caribbean countries.
- The facilitation of trade and investment between Saudi Arabia and the Caribbean countries.
