Saudi – Kazakhstan Relations

The relationship between Saudi Arabia and Kazakhstan has been steadily growing.  Both nations showed a keen interest in enhancing their partnership across various sectors. Recently, their cooperation has notably expanded in areas like investment, energy, agriculture, and tourism.

Investment and Economic Cooperation

Kazakhstan and Saudi Arabia have made significant strides in strengthening their economic ties. A major development in this regard is Saudi Arabia’s plan to invest a substantial $10 billion in green energy projects in Kazakhstan.

This investment will focus on the development of wind power and hydrogen energetics. Additionally, Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev highlighted Kazakhstan’s vast mineral resources, including being the world producer in tungsten reserves and a major producer of chromium ore and uranium. He also encouraged Saudi investment in these sectors.

Agriculture and Food Security

Food security has emerged as a key area of cooperation. President Tokayev expressed Kazakhstan’s readiness to become a stable supplier of high-quality wheat, flour, and oilseeds to Saudi Arabia.  This collaboration is particularly crucial as the Saudi Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture, Abdulrahman Al-Fadhli, has emphasized food security as a global challenge and sees Kazakhstan as a potential key player in this field.

Tourism and Cultural Exchange

The two countries are also exploring opportunities in the tourism sector. Many visits between both countries have discussed enhancing tourism cooperation, that could lead to increased cultural exchanges and understanding between both nations.
