Saudi Arabia’s Roads General Authority (RGA) has allocated SR3 billion ($800 million) to enhance Riyadh’s road network. Covering approximately 15,000 km of roads, these projects aim to support the Kingdom’s vision as a global logistics hub. This substantial investment addresses the region’s growing demand for efficient transport.
Key Project Scope
The RGA has already completed 23 road projects across Riyadh, including 20 preventive maintenance initiatives that cost SR170 million ($45 million). Additionally, three projects focused on traffic safety improvements cost over SR171 million ($45 million).
The authority is currently implementing 18 new projects in Riyadh, covering 516 km and valued at SR1.5 billion ($400 million). Furthermore, 48 preventive maintenance projects span 2,500 km and are valued at SR1 billion ($266 million). A traffic safety project, worth SR125 million ($33 million), is also underway.
Supporting Key Sectors
The RGA emphasized that the road sector is crucial to other industries, such as tourism, trade, and logistics. These road projects also benefit the Hajj and Umrah sectors, strengthening Saudi Arabia’s position in the global road connectivity index.
Advanced Technology and Safety Standards
Using cutting-edge technology, the RGA operates a fleet equipped with artificial intelligence for road projects. This approach aligns with the Kingdom’s goal to reduce road fatalities to fewer than 5 per 100,000 people. It also targets a top-six global ranking in the road quality index.
The RGA follows International Road Assessment Program (iRAP) standards to ensure high levels of traffic safety across its network. Future goals include increasing private sector involvement in road operations to 20%, ensuring sustained quality and safety across the region’s extensive road network.
