Saudi Arabia Ranks 12th Globally in International Tourism Receipts

Saudi Arabia has marked a new milestone as a global leader in tourism sector, by advancing 15 places in international tourist expenditure, reported the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).

According to the UN World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), the Kingdom now ranks the 12th globally in international visitor spending in 2023, leading the Top 50 ranking in upward movement.

The UNWTO’s report indicates that Saudi Arabia led the G20 countries in growth on the UN Tourism Barometer, as it recorded a 73% increase in international tourist visits. It also saw a 207% surge in international tourism revenues from January to July 2024, compared to the same period in 2019.

These incredible accomplishments further consolidate the Kingdom’s position as a pioneering global tourism destination. Moreover, the significant growth in international tourist arrivals demonstrates the tourists’ confidence in Saudi Arabia’s diverse tourist attractions.

On a global scale, international tourist arrivals have recorded a 96% recovery compared to pre-Covid-19 levels from January to July 2024, reaching 790 million tourists. This marks an 11% growth compared to the same period in 2023.

Furthermore, the Middle East has continued to maintain its position as the region with the strongest growth. The UNWTO report noted that international arrivals have grown by 26% compared to 2019 levels.

Tourism is a key pillar of Saudi Vision 2030, as it plays a vital role in diversifying economic revenues, creating more jobs, and improving the quality of life.

Hence, the Kingdom has made notable strides in enhancing tourism industry. It has reached the target of attracting 100 million visitors by 2030 seven years ahead of schedule, setting a new target of attracting 150 million.

In addition to highlighting its rich historical and cultural attractions, Saudi Arabia is also paying attention to emerging tourism sectors, such as wellness tourism, astrotourism and gastrotourism.
