For the first time ever, Saudi Arabia is participating in the Cannes Film Festival with the film “Nourah” in the “Un Certain Regard” competition. It is an important competition in which the world’s leading directors compete.
The film’s participation in the Cannes Film Festival confirms the artistic talent of Saudi director Tawfiq Al-Zaidi, and also reflects the effective role of the Red Sea Film Foundation in empowering emerging cinematic talents in the region.
The Saudi pavilion participating in the Cannes Film Festival has become a meeting point for the world’s leading film makers, including directors, stars, screenwriters, critics and technicians from all over the world, reported Al Arabiya.
The government, cinematic institutions and bodies, such as the Saudi Film Commission, the Red Sea Film Festival Foundation, and other parties working to promote the Saudi cinema industry are participating in the event. The Saudi Film Commission is organizing a group of seminars and dialogue sessions, including Thursday’s sessions entitled “The Experience of Filmmakers in Emerging Markets.”
Saudi producer Aymen Khoja, Saudi director Hamzah Jamjoom, Zambian director Rungano Nyoni, Somali director Mo Harawe and others will participate in the sessions. A second session will also be held under the title “Photos in Saudi Arabia”. It will include the most important beautiful places that can be used for filming, given the nature of Saudi Arabia, mountains, beaches and beautiful places like AlUla, NEOM, and others.
The Film Commission will conclude its activities on May 20 with a two-hour reception in the Saudi tent with the participation of the Saudi Film Forum and international film companies.
