Saudi Arabia Expects Freezing Temperatures, Dust Storms This Weekend

The National Centre for Meteorology (NCM) has issued a warning of an upcoming cold snap and dust storms that will hit Saudi Arabia in the first quarter of winter, Gulf News reported.

The NCM expects that temperatures in some regions will plunge to -3°C starting Sunday.

Hussain Al Qahtani, NCM’s official spokesperson, announced that the cold air mass will basically strike the regions of Tabuk, Al Jawf, Northern Borders, Hail, and northern parts of the Eastern Province from Sunday to Tuesday. Concurrently, minimum temperatures are projected to range between 0°C and -3°C.

Furthermore, the impacts of the cold wave will extend to Al Qassim, Riyadh, and the Eastern Province on Monday and Tuesday. At the same time, temperatures may range between 2°C and 5°C.

Strong winds will accompany the drop in temperatures resulting in dust storms on Sunday and Monday in the affected areas. In addition, winds may reach parts of Mecca and Medina, including coastal regions, specifically during daytime hours.

The centre also advised residents to keep a close eye to any updates from the centre and abide by safety guidelines launched by relevant authorities.
