Riyadh to Host Global Experts for Land Productivity
The National Center for Vegetation Cover Development and Combating Desertification will conduct a workshop focused on monitoring land productivity dynamics and analyzing trends in soil organic carbon stocks in extremely arid regions.
The workshop, set to take place in Riyadh from August 26 to 28, will feature participation from international experts, according to a Sunday report by the Saudi Press Agency. Additionally, the event is being organized in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture, the UN Convention to Combat Desertification, and the UN Development Programme Saudi Arabia.
The workshop supports Saudi Arabia’s ongoing initiatives to combat desertification and drought, addressing their negative effects on the environment. It acts as a preparatory stage for COP 16, scheduled to take place in Riyadh this December. Moreover, it focuses on land degradation and soil organic carbon in arid regions.
Furthermore, the center is dedicated to protecting, monitoring, and rehabilitating degraded vegetation sites across Saudi Arabia.
It addresses illegal logging and invests in pasturelands, forests, and national parks to promote sustainable development. It also support the goals of the Saudi Green Initiative.
