Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Culture, Prince Badr bin Abdullah bin Farhan, announced that Riyadh and Madinah have officially become members of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network, according to the Saudi Press Agency.
Riyadh was recognized for its excellence in design, while Madinah received recognition for its advanced culinary arts.
These recognitions further solidify Saudi Arabia’s rising prominence in UNESCO’s global network of cities for cultural innovation and urban development.
Through Riyadh’s inclusion in the UNESCO Creative Cities Network, the Architecture and Design Commission aims to reinforce the Kingdom’s position as a global hub for urban innovation.
The selection also reflects Riyadh’s standing as a capital city that boasts profound historical, cultural, and architectural significance, along with its status as a vibrant hub for urban transformation and innovation in the region.
Meanwhile, selecting Madinah to join UNESCO’s network represents a turning point for its cultural and economic future, securing a seat on the global map of culinary excellence.
Currently, the Culinary Arts Commission, in collaboration with the Madinah Development Authority, seeks to integrate Madinah’s rich heritage and traditional flavors into the contemporary dining scene.
By securing these recognitions, the Kingdom affirms its commitment to boosting its cultural presence on the international stage and investing in creativity as a catalyst for social and economic progress, in line with the Saudi Vision 2030.
