The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has reinforced its global leadership in public financial auditing and accounting by securing the chairmanship of the International Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (INTOSAI). The announcement was made during INTOSAI’s 25th General Assembly, held in Sharm El-Sheikh under the patronage of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi of the Arab Republic of Egypt.
The General Assembly declared that Saudi Arabia, represented by the General Court of Audit (GCA), will assume the chairmanship of INTOSAI in 2031 for a three-year term. During this period, the Kingdom will host delegations from more than 195 countries, led by the heads of supreme audit institutions (SAIs). This prestigious role places Saudi Arabia at the helm of the world’s leading organization in financial and performance auditing—empowering it to advance global efforts in transparency, public sector governance, and government performance, while strengthening public trust in national economies.
GCA
On this occasion, GCA President Dr. Hussam Alangari extended his congratulations to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, in recognition of their steadfast support and empowerment of the GCA. Dr. Alangari emphasized that this milestone reflects the Kingdom’s international standing and global credibility, enabling it to play a pivotal role in promoting auditing excellence and accountability worldwide.
Dr. Alangari also highlighted the transformative progress achieved by the GCA in recent years—in organizational independence, technical and human capacity, and methodological innovation—which has enabled the institution to realize its vision of impactful auditing, effective governance, and enhanced quality of life for citizens. He added:
“Saudi Arabia looks forward to welcoming the world to Riyadh in 2031, where together we will shape a global future grounded in transparency, governance, and governmental effectiveness.”
INTOSAI
This achievement crowns decades of international engagement led by Saudi Arabia through the GCA, beginning with its membership in INTOSAI in 1977. The Kingdom has consistently held leadership roles in both international and regional audit organizations, including serving as Chair of the Arab Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (ARABOSAI) for two consecutive terms since 2022, and as the upcoming Chair of the Asian Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (ASOSAI) beginning in 2027.
The GCA has also led numerous INTOSAI committees and initiatives focused on capacity building and enhancing the effectiveness of peer SAIs in developing countries—demonstrating Saudi Arabia’s enduring commitment to advancing the principles of auditing, accountability, and good governance on a global scale.
Founded over 70 years ago, INTOSAI stands as the largest and most prestigious international organization uniting SAIs from across the world. Today, it comprises more than 195 member countries, each represented by its supreme audit institution, collectively working to strengthen transparency, governance, and public sector auditing with the shared goal of improving citizens’ lives worldwide.
