Makkah Secretariat Executes Over 32,000 Volunteer Hours in 2023

Makkah Secretariat pays significant attention to promoting the culture of volunteering and highlighting its leading role.
This stems from a deep understanding of the importance of enhancing volunteer work that benefits society, both individuals and institutions, especially as this aligns with the future vision of the nation, aspiring to reach one million volunteers by 2030.
Secretariat’s Volunteering Opportunities
The official spokesperson for the Holy Capital Secretariat, Osama Al-Zaitouni, told Saudi Press Agency (SPA) that the Secretariat recently offered many volunteering opportunities for community participation.
These include initiating and organizing various charitable, national events, activities, and forming partnerships with civil society institutions.
These opportunities cater to various age groups, including professionals, students, retirees, and all community segments interested in volunteering.
This initiative has seen significant participation from young men and women of the nation.
Secretariat’s Diverse Volunteering Initiatives
The Secretariat’s volunteering efforts span several areas. Firstly, these include urban landscape improvement, visual distortion removal, waste disposal, and public park and tree planting.
These efforts also focus on erasing graffiti, promoting health awareness, and organizing social and cultural events. Consequently, these events aim to boost social interaction in the region.
Furthermore, a significant initiative, “Our Environment is Green,” seeks to enhance environmental awareness and sustainable practices. With 70 volunteers, this project aims to plant 30,000 trees and shrubs and 200,000 perennials.
Moreover, it also educates park visitors on tree preservation and encourages volunteerism among government and private sector employees.
Initiatives at Jabal Al-Noor
The Secretariat launched a volunteer initiative at Jabal Al-Noor on International Volunteer Day. This project involved cleaning the Jabal Al-Noor and Ghar Hira areas with 50 local volunteers. Its goal was to spread an environmental message about maintaining cleanliness in sacred places.
Subsequently, Makkah has recently experienced a surge in volunteerism. In 2023, volunteers logged 32,515.5 hours, involving about 9,055 participants across 374 opportunities.
The satisfaction rate over 98%, these numbers reflect the Secretariat’s dedication to promoting volunteerism. This effort aims to create a welcoming environment for volunteers and enhance the quality of life and municipal services in the Holy Capital.
