Huge Numbers Participate in National Afforestation Programme
The last two weeks have seen broad participation in the recently launched National Afforestation Programme.
This initiative operates through 13 branches of the National Center for Vegetation Cover Development and Combating Desertification.
Volunteers, government bodies, private bodies, and non-profit organizations have actively participated.
Diverse Contributions
Moreover, diplomats, environmental enthusiasts, associations, and volunteers of all ages joined the programme at Thadiq Park.
Together, they planted 1,500 trees in collaboration with the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). It aims to achieve the goals of the Saudi Green Initiative.
Strategic Collaborations
The Center for Vegetation Cover, in partnership with King Salman Energy City SPARK in the Eastern Region, launched a programme for city afforestation.
This initiative aims to create natural barriers against sand encroachment, enhance the local environment and plant 23,000 local saplings.
Community Engagement
In collaboration with the King Abdulaziz Center for World Culture “Ithra”, the center completed planting 5,844 saplings in Al Ahsa National Park.
This effort involved 75 volunteers from the Read marathon organized by “Ithra”. Notably, “Ithra” pledged to plant one tree for every 100 pages read during the marathon, resulting in over half a million pages read.
Therefore, more than 5,000 diverse trees planted. This initiative promotes reading and community involvement in afforestation.
Cyclists’ Contribution
Thirty cyclists of various nationalities visited the Jumum Park in Mecca region. They actively participated in afforestation activities during their cultural and religious journey to the Kingdom.
National Afforestation Programme Goals
Launched by the National Center for Vegetation Cover Development and Combating Desertification, in association with the Ministry of Environment, Water, and Agriculture, the programme aims to increase green spaces and combat desertification.
It focuses on raising community awareness about the importance of afforestation, environmental preservation, and natural resource conservation, striving for a sustainable green environment.
Center’s Mission
The center is dedicated to developing, protecting, and monitoring vegetation cover sites and rehabilitating degraded areas. This includes managing pastures, forests, and national parks, as well as addressing vegetation cover encroachments.
