The King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam set a record by handling 20,645 standard containers on the COSCO SHIPPING AQUARIUS 036E vessel. This achievement highlights the port’s crucial role in commercial activities and logistics. It also supported the National Transport and Logistics Strategy’s goal of making the Kingdom a global logistics hub connecting three continents.
This shows the General Authority for Ports’ success in improving port efficiency and connecting the Kingdom to global markets. It also strengthens King Abdulaziz Port’s competitive edge in Dammam and affirms its international presence in maritime and logistics, thanks to its advanced facilities that accommodate various ship types and sizes.
Moreover, the port is undergoing continuous infrastructure development and capacity expansion. In 2024, the port received 21 new coastal and gantry cranes through a 7 billion riyal contract with the Saudi International Ports Company. Additionally, a major contract with SANY will supply the port with 80 electric trucks, the largest global order for SANY’s electric trucks. The port has 43 fully serviced berths and can handle up to 105 million tons of cargo and containers.
King Abdulaziz Port recently set records in container handling, including a peak of 292,612 TEUs in May 2024. Furthermore, this main Arabian Gulf port is linked to Riyadh’s dry port by rail and serves as a key hub for goods traveling to the Eastern and Central regions.
