The 5th week of the Esports World Cup was full of competitions and tournaments that run through five days, reported the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).
The week featured three long awaited tournaments, including:
- Honor of Kings
- Rainbow Six Siege
- Apex Legends
The Chinese team known as KPL Dream Team beat the Malaysian team LGD Gaming MY securing a score of 3-0, winning the Honor of Kings with the1st place prize of $1 million.
In Rainbow Six Siege, the Swiss team BDS won the competition and secured the 1st place prize of $750,000.
The Swedish team Alliance defeated the Saudi Team Falcons in the Apex Legends tournament, earning a prize of $600,000.
The 6th week of this prestigious worldwide event will kick off in Thursday with 3 flagship tournaments, including:
- Teamfight Tactics
- Street Fighter 6
- Fortnite
The Esports World Cup
Saudi Arabia is currently hosting the largest event in the history of the gaming and electronic sports sector.
The cup includes the largest prize pool in Esports history with more than $60 million for the inaugural Esports World Cup (EWC) this summer in Riyadh. The historic prize pool stands as a testament to the Esport World Cup Foundation‘s pursuit to flourish the global esports industry while providing more sustainable career options for athletes and clubs.
EWC aims at increasing the gaming sector’s contribution to Saudi Arabia’s GDP by more than $ 13.3 billion and boosting its position as a pioneering hub for hosting worldwide prestigious events.
In 2023, Saudi launched ‘The National Gaming and Esports Strategy (NGES) to foster the Kingdom’s status as a center of the competitive gaming world by 2030.
Last year, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz established the Esports World Cup Foundation, a non-profit organization that aims at opening a new era of collaboration between esports stakeholders and enhancing the sector’s sustainability.
