EWC Accelerates Saudi Arabia’s Foray into Esports, with a $60 mln Prize

The stage is set for the largest prize pool in Esports history with more than $60 million for the inaugural Esports World Cup (EWC) this summer in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Saudi Arabia is currently gearing up to host its debut EWC on July 3 till August 25 at the Riyadh Boulevard City.

Prize Pool

The historic prize pool of over $60 million stands as a testament to the Esport World Cup Foundation‘s pursuit to flourish the global esports industry while providing more sustainable career options for athletes and clubs.

The prize pool is divided into four categories, as follows:

Game championships $33 million
 Player bounties $1 million
Qualifiers $7 million
A cross-game competitive format club championship $20 million

“Setting the record for largest esports prize pool is a remarkable achievement, but what I’m most proud of is the positive message this sends to the wider esports and gaming community,” said Ralf Reichert, CEO, Esports World Cup Foundation.

Saudi Investment in Sports

EWC aims at increasing the gaming sector’s contribution to Saudi Arabia’s GDP by more than $ 13.3 billion and boosting its position as a pioneering hub for hosting worldwide prestigious events.

In 2023, Saudi launched ‘The National Gaming and Esports Strategy (NGES) to foster the Kingdom’s status as a center of the competitive gaming world by 2030.

“The competition will enhance our progress towards realizing the Vision 2030 objectives of diversifying the economy, growing the tourism sector, creating new jobs in various industries, and providing world-class entertainment for citizens, residents, and visitors alike,” Saudi Crown Prince Mohamad bin Salman said.

Last year, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz established the Esports World Cup Foundation, a non-profit organization that aims at opening a new era of collaboration between esports stakeholders and enhancing the sector’s sustainability.
