Saudi Arabia’s first certified yoga instructor and the first Arab recipient of the Padma Shri Award, Nouf Al-Marwaai has been selected among the five most influential women in yoga worldwide, reported Asharq Al-Awsat Newspaper.
Al-Marwaai expressed her happiness to be the youngest among the top five women, indicating that such success is the real dream of every Saudi athlete.
“The achievement stands as a testament to the great empowerment in my country, with the continuous support of the Ministry of Sports through which I can spread yoga in my society and empower women to practice it,” Al-Marwaai said.
The Kingdom is playing a pivotal role in spreading awareness regarding yoga due to its spiritual significance, ability to develop self-control and maintain peace.
“The future of yoga in the Kingdom is prosperous, as the celebration of the last year’s International Yoga Day highlighted the attendance of tens of thousands from all segments of society,” she added.
Al-Marwaai is Saudi Arabia’s first woman yoga master who obtained India’s Civilian Honor, Padma Shree, on 15 August 2018, the fourth highest civilian honor in India.
10th International Yoga Day
The announcement of the most influential women in Yoga came on the sidelines of Saudi Arabia’ celebration of the 10th International Yoga Day in June 21.
Themed “Yoga for Self and Society,” the celebration took place at the Prince Faisal bin Fahad Olympic Complex in collaboration with the Saudi Yoga Committee (SYC) and the Ministry of Sports.
Al-Marwaai said: “It is with great joy and pride that we welcome all to the 10th International Yoga Day celebration here in Saudi Arabia. Today marks a significant milestone in our journey of promoting health, harmony and peace through yoga.”
On June 20, the Indian Embassy in Riyadh organized a magnificent seminar in collaboration with the SYC and the Ministry of Sports.
It showcased screenings of documentaries on the history of yoga and the International Day of Yoga.
On June 21, the Consulate General of India, Jeddah held various celebrations in coordination with the Internation Indian School, Jeddah.
