Falcons Vega MENA has become the first Arab women’s team to participate in the eSports World Cup, held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, reported the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).
This remarkable success came after their participation in the Mobile Legends – Bang Bang Women’s Championship, which is being held from July 24-27, marking the participation of 12 teams, and a total prize pool of $500,000.
Falcons Vega MENA will play in Group C, which includes Vietnamese team Zino Lilies and Russian team Victory Song Gamers.
The gamers will play according to a round robin format. Thus, the victorious team should win two matches.
Furthermore, the first and second place teams from each group will be qualified for the final stage.
ESports World Cup
The new Saudi Esports Federation (SEF) Arena in Riyadh is currently hosting the first edition of the World Esports Championship from July 4 to August 25.
The championship is the largest event in the gaming and electronic-sports (esports) sector.
It has brought together the most prominent top players, clubs, influencers, and publishers around the world.
With a capacity to accommodate around 7,500 people, the SEF Arena includes numerous shops, two dining areas, and a building designed to the Saudi Academy for Esports.
The SEF Arena basically consists of five halls across two buildings covering a total area of approximately 35,000 square meters.
It stands as a testament to Saudi Arabia’s ambitions to be a pioneering destination for gaming and hosting worldwide events.
“To have the largest electronic sports area in the world is the result of years of work and efforts undertaken by SEF,” said SEF chief executive Turki Al-Fawzan.
Last year, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz established the Esports World Cup Foundation, a non-profit organization that aims at opening a new era of collaboration between esports stakeholders and enhancing the sector’s sustainability.
“The Esports World Cup is the natural next step in Saudi Arabia’s journey to become the premier global hub for gaming and esports, offering a seamless esports experience that pushes the boundaries of the industry,” Mohammed bin Salman stated.
