Flights from Dubai to Saudi Arabia Resume after Heavy Rains Disrupt Operations

The Saudi Consul in Dubai, Abdullah Al-Mutawa, took to his official social media account to announce the resumption of flights from Dubai to Saudi Arabia on Thursday, April 18. Al-Mutawa urged passengers to contact their respective airline companies to confirm their reservations, emphasizing that without confirmation, they will not be permitted to travel. He also advised strict adherence to the instructions issued by the authorities and wished travelers a safe journey.
The announcement comes after Dubai International Airport temporarily suspended travel procedures for departing passengers due to operational challenges caused by unprecedented heavy rains earlier this week.
This led to the cancellation, diversion, and delay of numerous flights as airlines worked to adjust their operations.

However, it was clarified that passengers arriving in Dubai and those already in transit would continue to be processed, albeit with expected delays for departures and arrivals. Dubai airports and their partners are making concerted efforts to restore normal operations and have expressed their sincere apologies to affected passengers. They have assured travelers that they are working diligently to recover swiftly and resume all flights as soon as possible.

Unusual for the region, the United Arab Emirates experienced the heaviest rainfall ever recorded since 1949, according to the National Center of Meteorology (NCM). The heavy rains began on Monday night and continued through Tuesday, resulting in over 142mm of rainfall in Dubai alone. Consequently, highways and roads have been flooded, schools have been closed, flights have been canceled, and people have been advised to stay at home.
As flight operations gradually return to normal, travelers are encouraged to stay updated with the latest information from their respective airlines and adhere to any guidelines provided by the authorities to ensure a smooth and safe travel experience.
