Culinary Arts Authority Adds Three Saudi Bakeries to Creative Cities Initiative

The Culinary Arts Authority has included three Saudi baked goods within the “Creative Cities Bakery” initiative.
These baked goods reflect the history and culinary heritage of Saudi cities included in the UNESCO Creative Cities Network, which was chosen in appreciation of the efforts made to preserve cultural heritage for sustainable development.
Moreover, these baked goods came to represent Saudi creative cities in the UNESCO network: Al-Ahsa, the creative city in handicrafts and folk arts, Buraidah, the creative city in culinary arts, and Taif, the creative city in the field of literature.

Saudi Bakeries
These Saudi Bakeries were selected based on specific criteria, such as using local flour and reflecting the city’s culture. For instance, Al-Ahsa’s “red bread” incorporates dates and spices unique to the region. Buraidah’s “Kleija” and Taif’s “bread of millet” were also chosen, highlighting the culinary heritage of their respective cities. Additionally, this selection underscores the cultural diversity and creativity of Saudi cities through their distinctive baked goods and preparation methods.

These Saudi bakeries list come also within the Authority’s efforts and strategy to contribute to highlighting Saudi culinary arts at the local and global levels, and its keenness on international knowledge and cultural exchange. The initiative aims to promote the rich heritage and unique flavors of Saudi cuisine. By showcasing traditional dishes, the Authority hopes to attract food enthusiasts and culinary experts from around the world.
This endeavor also supports local chefs and culinary artists, providing them with a platform to share their skills. Ultimately, the goal is to foster a deeper appreciation for Saudi culture through its vibrant culinary traditions.
