A number of airports within Cluster 2 Airports have secured Carbon Accreditation from Airports Council International (ACI), underscoring their ongoing commitment to environmental sustainability.
Arar Airport achieved Level 4+, one of the highest accreditation levels. This distinction requires airports to implement robust policies and initiatives aimed at reducing absolute carbon emissions in alignment with global best practices.
Meanwhile, several other airports were recognized at Level 2, including King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz International Airport in Jazan, Najran Airport, Sharurah Airport, Wadi Al-Dawasir Airport, and Al-Wajh Airport. At this stage, airports must establish clear emissions reduction targets and demonstrate tangible progress in lowering their carbon footprint.

The ACI Carbon Accreditation program is an internationally recognized framework that evaluates and certifies airports’ efforts to manage and reduce carbon emissions. Additionally, it features seven progressive levels, marking each airport’s advancement toward achieving carbon neutrality.
These accomplishments highlight Cluster 2 Airports’ dedication to advancing environmental sustainability, supporting both the Saudi Civil Aviation Environmental Sustainability Program and the broader Saudi Green Initiative.
