Riyadh’s King Khalid International Airport ranked first in Saudi Arabia’s General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) performance report for September 2024. The airport secured an 82% compliance rate in the category of international airports handling over 15 million passengers annually. This top ranking highlights its commitment to service quality and operational efficiency.

Jeddah’s King Abdulaziz Airport follows closely
King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah came second with a 73% compliance rate. The GACA report evaluates Saudi Arabia’s airports based on 11 key performance criteria, designed to enhance traveller services and ensure seamless airport operations. The authority’s report aims to assess the effectiveness of airports in meeting the strategic objectives of improving traveler experiences.
Top performers across various airport categories
In the category of international airports serving between 5 to 15 million passengers annually, King Fahd International Airport in Dammam and Prince Mohammed bin Abdulaziz International Airport in Madinah tied for first place. Both achieved a compliance rate of 91%, reflecting their high service standards.
Meanwhile, King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz International Airport in Jizan and Abha International Airport excelled in the category of airports handling 2 to 5 million passengers annually. Both airports achieved a perfect 100% compliance rate. However, Jizan’s airport outperformed Abha in specific evaluation criteria.

Al-Ahsa and Gurayat lead in smaller airport categories
In the category of international airports with fewer than 2 million passengers, Al-Ahsa International Airport led with a 100% compliance rate. Its performance was particularly strong in reducing average waiting times for both departing and arriving flights.
Gurayat Airport ranked first among domestic airports, also achieving a 100% compliance rate. It surpassed other domestic airports in minimizing waiting times and ensuring smooth passenger experiences.
Operational standards and evaluation
GACA evaluates airport performance based on operational standards, including check-in, security, baggage claim, and assistance for passengers with reduced mobility. These standards are aligned with international best practices, ensuring that Saudi airports meet global benchmarks for passenger service.
