West Texas Feel Tremors after 4.9 Magnitude Earthquakes

Series of earthquakes hit West Texas on Monday night, including a 4.9 magnitude event in Scurry County, according to the (USGS).

The 4.9-magnitude earthquake occurred approximately 17 kilometers (10.56 miles) northeast of Hermleigh, Texas, at a depth of 7.7 km around 10:38 p.m.

Seismic Activity

Various locations across West Texas reported tremors from the seismic activity.

Meanwhie, two additional earthquakes followed in the same vicinity, with magnitudes of 4.4 and 3.1, occurring at approximately 10:46 p.m. and 11:56 p.m. respectively.

Additionally, the majority of reports originated from larger communities in the region. It also included Lubbock, Midland, Big Spring, San Angelo, and Abilene, the USGS stated.

What Happened at Night

As of Monday night, there have been no reports of damage or injuries linked to the earthquake.

While moderate earthquakes are not uncommon in West Texas, they typically result in minimal or no confirmed damage.

On April 10, a 4.4 magnitude earthquake was reported in Martin County, located approximately 13 miles north of Stanton.
