The National Center for Vegetation Development and Combating Desertification completed planting 80,000 local trees in Aba Samri National Park, Marat Governorate, Riyadh Region.
The varieties planted include acacia, wild jujube, local jujube, ghaf, radiana, arta, and alghada. This effort is part of the national tree planting program aiming to plant 10 billion trees.
Strategic Planting Locations
The planting sites were spread across the park’s vast area of over 196 million square meters, according to Saudi Press Agency.
Moreover, the goal is to plant 280,000 local trees in the park, known for its sand dunes, and grasslands such as Rawdat Aba Samri and others.
Enhancing Public Services and Investment
Also, the center aims to develop vegetation cover in parks across the Kingdom, enhancing investment and services for the public. It also offers temporary investment opportunities, launches community and volunteer initiatives for tree planting and cleaning, and welcomes camping and caravan enthusiasts annually.
Conservation, Rehabilitation Efforts
Consequently, the center works on developing, protecting, and monitoring vegetation sites and rehabilitating degraded ones.
Finally, this initiative includes managing pastures, forests, national parks, and detecting encroachments on vegetation, combating illegal logging around the Kingdom, and preserving natural resources and biodiversity.
