United Nations: Saudi Arabia Ranks 4th Globally in Digital Services, Leading Region

Saudi Arabia surged 25 places in the 2024 United Nations E-Government Development Index (EGDI), it is 4th worldwide, 1st regionally, and 2nd among G20 countries in the Digital Services Index. It also achieved 7th place in the E-Participation Index, and Riyadh is 3rd out of 193 cities globally.

Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Digital Government Authority, Abdullah Al-Sawaha said, “This historic leap and rank achieved by the Kingdom is the result of the support provided by the Crown Prince, Prime Minister.”
This support has culminated in the Kingdom’s digital excellence and leadership. It reflects the plans and programs of Vision 2030. At the same time, it strengthens the Kingdom’s role as an active and influential leader in the digital economy at both the regional and global levels.”
He also affirmed the Kingdom’s determination to continue its journey of leadership, excellence, and transformation towards a national economy based on innovation.
Digital Government Authority
Eng. Ahmed Al-Suwayan, Governor of the Digital Government Authority, noted that the Kingdom’s rising position in the UN E-Government Development Index shows strong support from its leadership for top-notch digital services. He praised Vision 2030’s executive programs for their role in boosting the Kingdom’s ranking through reforms, investments, and enhanced collaboration among government entities.

The report praised Saudi Arabia for its progress in digital government, achieving 6th place globally. Since the launch of Vision 2030, the Kingdom has seen substantial investments. It moved up 53 ranks in the Telecommunications Infrastructure Index (TII) and 31 ranks in the Human Capital Index (HCI).
The Kingdom also jumped 67 ranks in the Online Services Index (OSI), reaching 4th place globally in 2024. Government digital regulations and open data availability both reached 100%, and Saudi Arabia advanced 60 ranks in electronic participation and consultations.
E-Government Development
It is worth noting that the E-Government Development Index has been one of the most important international indicators for over 20 years. It is published every two years and reflects the impact of structural reforms on increasing productivity and improving the experience through the development of digital governments in United Nations member states.
Finally, these reports are used as a primary reference for measuring government performance in all countries around the world.
