Saudi Arabia’s Transport General Authority (TGA) on Monday announced a 30-day suspension of requirements to maintain valid certificates and documentation needed to issue or renew maritime licenses and work permits for marine units, according to Saudi Gazette.
The authority said the suspension may be extended if necessary, on the condition that it does not compromise safety or the protection of the marine environment.
The suspension includes both domestic and international vessels operating within Saudi Arabia’s territorial waters in the Arabian Gulf.
The measure comes at a crucial time as the current conflict in the Middle East is disrupting the maritime activities. Therefore, this move seeks to ensure the uninterrupted flow of maritime operations and enhance the efficiency of related processes.
Moreover, the exemption extends to vessels engaged in maritime works and projects within Saudi waters, which may encounter operational constraints that hinder their departure to fulfill technical obligations or undergo essential inspections overseas.
