What Did Seminar at Delhi World Book Fair Include?

The seminar included a visual presentation highlighting 11 traditional crafts in KSA including palm crafts, leatherwork, woodworking, and pottery. Al-Sahen’s Definition for Handicrafts at Delhi International Book Fair

At the beginning of the seminar, Hanan Al-Sahen defined handicrafts as activities carried out by artisans utilizing raw materials. She discussed palm crafts, which produce various products used for decoration, bags, and food preservation. Moreover, she talked about handmade textiles using plant and animal fibers like the weaving of wool tents.

Al-Sahen Talks about Leather Crafts

Moreover, she addressed leather crafts, which undergo a tanning process for utility products. For example, these products are leather vessels for storing milk and water, winter clothing, and shoes. She mentioned pottery products made from clay formed into vessels for food and water storage.

Al-Ghanmi Showcases Famous Wooden Handicraft Products

In turn, Engineer Maha Al-Ghanmi displayed some of the most famous wooden handicraft products. She showcased products such as Najdi doors and “rawashin” (windows in the Saudi architectural style) adorned with engravings. Moreover, Al-Ghanmi presented the bridal chest, incense burners, as well as embroidery with threads, pearls, and gemstones. One of her most famous works is the embroidery of the Kaaba cover which is done by specialists and a special covering factory.
