“The Saudi Ardah” Dazzles Audience at NDWBF

The Saudi Ardah dazzled the Indian audience at the New Delhi World Book Fair 2024, where the Kingdom is the guest of honor. It is worth mentioning that the New Delhi Book Fair took place at Pragati Maidan in the Indian capital, New Delhi, from February 10 to 18.

Notably, the performance group presented live shows throughout the exhibition for the visitors.

 

What is Saudi Ardah?

Ardah is a type of folkloric group dance in the Arabian Peninsula, particularly in Saudi Arabia. Notably, two rows of men execute the dance, with drumming and spoken poetry, while facing each other.

Some of them may carry a sword or cane, adding to the spectacle and cultural significance of the performance.

It is known for its performance at national occasions, festivities, and celebrations. Performers execute this dance to exhibit strength, courage, and enthusiasm among the audience.

 

 

Performers’ Clothes in Saudi Ardah

The Performers of Saudi Ardah wear distinctive traditional attire characterized by bright colors and intricate embroidery techniques.

The clothes includes garments like the Daqla, Sedri, Zubeen. Additionally, it includes Sheltahat (wide-sleeved robe), Bisht, and Qarmaliyah (drummers’ attire). Moreover, it is often accompanied by a sword or rifle.

Notably, the dance is a proud cultural symbol, often performed by the kingdom’s monarch , and received by dignitaries.

 

Saudi Ardah Is Part of Cultural Heritage

Saudi Ardah was recognized by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage in December 2015. Afterward, KSA established the National Center for Saudi Ardah in 2017 at Darah Al-Malik Abdulaziz.  The center aimed at promoting cultural and national identity.

 

Saudi’s Pavilion Presents KSA’s Culture

Notably, KSA presents a comprehensive cultural experience led by the Literature, Publishing, and Translation Authority through the Saudi Pavilion at the New Delhi International Book Fair,

Moreover, various cultural sectors participated in this event. For example, Heritage, Music Authority, Film Authority, Culinary Arts, and Fashion Authority, along with Darah Al-Malik Abdulaziz were present.

Notably, the participation aims to highlight the intellectual wealth, heritage, artifacts, culture, and arts of KSA to the Indian audience.

Moreover, the participation will feature a diverse cultural program including seminars, and dialogues. Notably, this participation will cover aspects of cultural, artistic, literary, and knowledge domains. Furthermore, several Saudi writers will take part in the event.

Additionally, two celebrations will be held to introduce Saudi cuisine and traditional performance arts alongside the participation.
