The Saudi Cabinet, chaired by King Salman bin Abdulaziz, welcomed the institutional and operational launch of the multinational Defensive Maritime Alliance initiated by the Kingdom, following completion of its organizational and planning structures.
The move ushers in a new phase of joint action aimed at achieving full operational readiness and executing the alliance’s mandate to strengthen collective maritime security, safeguard freedom of navigation through key sea lanes and straits, and support the continuity of international trade and global supply chains.
The Cabinet reiterated its categorical rejection of repeated Iranian attacks on commercial vessels and tankers, calling them a serious escalation and direct threat to maritime security and safety. It said such actions violate international law and norms and defy UN Security Council resolutions that guarantee the right of commercial ships to free passage through the Strait of Hormuz, condemning any measures that obstruct this.
Regional Coordination, Diplomatic Outreach
The Cabinet described the establishment of the Saudi-Sudanese Coordination Council as a continuation of both countries’ commitment to deepening coordination within an institutional framework designed to deliver concrete outcomes through initiatives, projects and shared targets.
It also reviewed recent talks and consultations between Saudi Arabia and a range of brotherly and friendly nations aimed at expanding bilateral and multilateral cooperation across multiple sectors to advance mutual interests and bolster regional and international security and stability.
Environmental Leadership, Humanitarian Role
The Cabinet highlighted the Kingdom’s success in chairing the 16th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Convention to Combat Desertification, marked by the launch of partnerships and initiatives to tackle land degradation, desertification and drought, strengthen water and food security and climate adaptation, and develop innovative environmental solutions for sustainable development.
Marking World Humanitarian Day on Wednesday, the Cabinet expressed pride in Saudi Arabia’s leading humanitarian record and its status among the world’s largest donors, citing a long history of aid, relief operations and support for vulnerable populations globally.
Domestic Priorities: Education, Investment, Digital Transformation
On the domestic front, the Cabinet reviewed achievements in the education sector ahead of the new academic year, including efforts to enhance organizational and operational efficiency, expand learning infrastructure, broaden students’ scientific experiences, develop teacher capabilities, and provide advanced curricula and programs that foster innovation and creativity in line with Vision 2030 goals.
It praised the Public Investment Fund’s financial performance and continued progress toward its targets, noting revenue and net profit growth in 2025, alongside its role in driving economic diversification, expanding local and international investments, and deepening involvement in strategic sectors such as artificial intelligence, technology, energy, infrastructure and advanced manufacturing.
The Cabinet also commended government entities’ progress in the 2026 “Digital Experience Maturity Index,” reaffirming their commitment to innovating more flexible and effective technical solutions that deliver high-quality services to citizens, residents and visitors, consistent with the Kingdom’s leadership in international digital rankings.
